Im Norden der katalanischen Hauptstadt Barcelona gelegen, ist Playa de Aro eine Küstenstadt, die das ganze Jahr über etwa 10.000 Einwohner hat. Es ist eine gute Siedlungsgröße sowohl für Urlauber als auch für Menschen, die eine dauerhafte Bleibe suchen. Die Stadt ist in zwei Abschnitte unterteilt, denjenigen, der das Meer überblickt, und den anderen, der etwas landeinwärts liegt. Es gibt zahlreiche kleine Strände, die von dem Teil der Stadt aus zugänglich sind, der ursprünglich ein Fischerhafen war. Der ältere Teil wurde um eine Burg und eine Wehrkirche herum gebaut, die im Volksmund als Castell d'Aro bekannt ist.

Die Gemeinde Play de Aro liegt an der Costa Brava mit Blick auf das Mittelmeer, etwa eine halbe Stunde vom beliebten, geschäftigen Ferienort Lloret de Mar entfernt. Es ist eineinhalb Stunden vom geschäftigen Flughafen Barcelonas und ähnlich weit von den französischen Stadt Perpignan über den Pyrenäen. Die Innenstadt Barcelonas mit ihren vielen Bars, Geschäften und Restaurants ist in nur ca. 80 Minuten mit dem Auto zu erreichen. Die Lage ist also ideal geeignet für Menschen, die ein entspanntes Leben mit guten, lokalen Geschäften suchen, aber nie zu weit weg sind die Aktion.
